About the band:
NORTHCOAST was established in 1988 and has been performing ever since in various forms. NORTHCOAST recorded two CDs in the ‘90s and won “Best Jazz CD” at the 1992 Minnesota Music Awards. The band is co-led by saxophonist Pat Mackin and bassist David Gonzalez. Pat has been playing the Twin City’s area for 35 years with local bands including the TC Jammers, The Lamont Cranston Band, and 14 years with Mick Sterling as well as many others. Pat recorded and toured nationally with RCA recording artists The DAISY DILLMAN BAND. Pat is also an 8 time winner of the Minnesota Music Award for best sax. David is also a long established musician and played a role in establishing the so called Minneapolis Sound performing with the group “WESTSIDE” in the 80’s. David has also toured extensively with THE WINANS, TROOP (Atlantic Records), AFTER 7 (Virgin Records), LA TIERRA (RCA Records) and continues to be a driving force in the local music scene. David is a recipient of 3 Minnesota Music Awards.
The band also includes Tim Zorne on drums, Devo on guitar and Jason Craft on keyboards.

NORTHCOAST plays predominately instrumental music in the contemporary jazz idiom. However, we occasionally add a vocalist to the band for specific events. We also play select compositions from our past CDs, but also include many tunes from Jeff Lorber, Dave Sanborn, Grover Washington and Herbie Hancock, just to name a few. Besides playing the music at a high level of expertise, NORTHCOAST is also recognized for its’ dynamic performance culled from years of experience on national and international stages.
NORTHCOAST DUO 
David and Pat also perform as a DUO. We provide background music for events, however the DUO can also be an excellent listening experience. We utilize some pre-recorded music tracks and perform along with that, but also play unaccompanied and feature David's talent for using a “Tapping Technique” style playing the cords while simultaneously performing the bass part.
